Despite the recent tragic bushfires experienced in the Gippsland region and other areas of Victoria, the 2009 Ficifolia Festival will proceed, with one minor alteration.
Consideration was given to cancelling some or all events as a mark of respect and empathy with those suffering loss, however it was decided to proceed. It is highly likely the 2009 Ficifolia Festival will conveythe sombre and reflective mood evident through the broader community as we all come to grips with the enormity of recent events. At present, the main focus for the community is on the challenges ahead in recovery, rebuilding and reconstruction. We sincerely hope the Festival can assist some way in positively engaging and entertaining people and help focus attention away from recent events – if only for a brief time.
The one change to Festival events is cancellation of the fireworks display which was to form the finale of the Friday evening entertainment. In light of recent tragic events, it was decided fireworks would be inappropriate and potentially upsetting to some people.
The Ficifolia Festival Committee is most appreciative of the understanding of Southern Cross Fireworks of this decision and will meet the costs already incurred in preparation. The remaining Festival funds allocated for the fireworks display will instead be directed to an appropriate fund to support victims of the recent tragedy. We are also seeking community support for a bushfire fund collection to form part of Saturday’s events.

Stall holders wanted for Party in the Park
Hundreds of spectators line the streets to watch the colourful street parade during the Drouin Ficifolia Festival. The crowd then wind their way down to Party in the Park.
Musical entertainment, fun activities and hot food and drinks all add to the carnival-like atmosphere.
An added attraction is the wide variety of market stalls in the park. These range from bric- a - brac, body products, gifts, plants, toys and homemade jewellery.
The Ficifolia Festival committee are currently seeking expressions of interest from stall holders who wish to participate in this vibrant event on Saturday 14 February 2009.
